Cpu and gpu temp question

Can my i7 4790k cpu and my zotac Gtx 970 hover at 80-90c safely? only when I'm playing farcry 4 it does this other wise pretty Low temps 35c idle

They will work but I'm guessing they're throttling.

I upgraded the cooling for my old Gtx 560 ti and temps dropped from ~ 85 to ~ 65. Benchmark tests after the upgrade also told me that the card's performance increased by a staggering 10%! In games that meant that I saw a FPS increase in Fable 3 from ~ 46 to ~ 56 - 60.

I'm an AMD fanboy and I also saw CPU throttling when the CPU passed over 70 degrees, but I'm not sure if this applies to Intel as well. You can try changing the thermal paste for both your CPU and GPU with a good high end one (that might shave off 5-10 degrees) but if you want a noticeable temperature drop you're gonna have to get an aftermarket cooler for each.
