Question CPU and Memory Type

Purchased lga2011-v3 motherboard with ddr3 memory socket RAM slots. Was looking to use xeon E5-2640V3 which has a lga2011-v3 socket but looking up the cpu it say DDR4 memory but the motherboard has DDR3 memory. Can someone tell me if this will work or not. Thanks

x99/cpu should only support ddr4

While Intel may only officially support DDR4 on its newer chips, they also non-officially support LPDDR3 to accommodate OEMs. This is why you see oddball Chinese boards that offer some unusual CPU-RAM-chipset combinations that don't make sense based on Intel's specs but actually work.
