I have an i5 2500 and a H61M K mobo that I bought.
I regret to have found out the cpu isn't compatible, my question is how long will it be untill the cpu or mobo burns out or fails? Because I have no other options... I cannot buy another cpu or mobo...

I know I should have checked the supported but I saw it supported 2nd and 3rd gen i3 i5 and i7 so I assumed.........

Thanks in advance...

See its working but the mobo can only supply 77w and my cpu want 95w?

Okay are you sure about this?

Why not check by yourself? Use Intel XTU and run the CPU stress test. It isn't really a stress test like Prime95 Small FFTs, but check at what frequency the CPU runs (it should be constant while running the test). Then you'll know if it runs at full speed (3.3 GHz); if it does, then you could run Prime95 on a single core (not all 4) and check if it runs at up to 3.7 GHz.

Okay but what do you suggest? Should I run it like this or should I change the motherboard back?
The reason I upgraded was the old motherboard didn't support 64-bit os.

If it runs properly, then it shouldn't be an issue unless you plan on running software that keeps the CPU 100% busy most of the time. I suggested that you check the frequency when stress testing the CPU to verify if it reaches the expected speed; if it isn't fully supported, then it will probably run at a lower frequency. Ideally you would have checked CPU support before buying the motherboard.

I don't know what motherboard you had, but I've never heard of a socket 1155 motherboard that didn't support a 64 bit OS. Last time I ran into that issue was with an old socket 775 motherboard approximately 10 years ago.

It was an Intel DH67BL motherboard, and yes I failed to check the specific cpu's.
Moral of the story CHECK THE CPU SUPPORT! {thats what im telling myself now.....}
Thanks

It's no different than installing the 32 bit version. Insert and boot from the media and follow the instructions. If unsure, use Google and you'll find plenty of installation guides. If not yet done, download the 64 bit drivers for the Intel motherboard and make them available on a USB key.

Okay just an update before closing it down, I installed 64-bit os and it works. The only thing bothering me is MSI Aferburner says my cpu runs at 75-80 degrees celcius. I will be getting new thermal paste as it is depleted.
Thanks for everything guys.

See I'm playing games but it taxes the cpu around 20 to 30% also can I trust msi afterburner? The only thing I get in my bios settings are the cpu thermal margin and it says +2 or +3?
