Question CPU and motherboard change

Hi there all.

Got a quick questions if someone got a spare moment to reply. Currently I've got i5 7400 and MSI h110 plus combo and it's time to send it for retirement. I have ordered i5 12400 and Gigabyte b660 ds3h atx but I'm not sure my PSU will handle it. Currently I have 600w Fractal Essence installed and the system works flawlessly. Should I expect any rise in power demand after I put in new CPU. What would be the symptoms if my current PSU is too weak? Is there a chance that this might cause any damage to the parts?

Google told me that the 7400 and the 12400 have the same power consumption.

So as long as you don't put another huge graphic card to the new system, the old PSU should be able to handle the new config without problem.

You mean TDP? No, that's different from powerconsumption. 7400 consumes less than 65w TDP, 12400 way more.

600w Fractal Essence

Old groupregulated unit. I would replace it for a decent unit wit LLC when getting new hardware.

They are both 65W TDP processors as per Intel, but the 12440's turbo mode ups the rating to 117W. Still not a problem for your PSU if that was the concern you had.
