So i have an i5 9600k and a rtx 2070. when i play wihtout vsync my cpu usage just goes to 100. it happend to me on battlefront 2 and on rainbow six seige and idk what to do. my cpu was recently replaced from intel because the last one just stopped working so i got a new one but the same model and everything. idk what to really do at this point anymore, i wanna play games without having to use vsync because i feel like its slower

Solution
Six cores/six threads is not exactly the cornucopia 'tons of threads to spare' scenario in gaming...

Any decent modern game, especially when paired with a good GPU...well, your CPU is going to stay at/near pegged. Only way to lower CPU usage (itself a questionable goal) it is to not waste time generating frames that can't even be seen above your monitors refresh rate, i.e, vsync.

Or, get a CPU with a 'more than adequate' thread count.

Personally, as long as you are not stuttering in your heavy action sequences, I'd just stop staring at CPU usage as something you think you 'need to fix'....
There is nothing wrong with your cpu running at 100% if you are getting the FPS you want. It’s not uncommon for 6 core/thread CPU’s to be running at very high usage in some games.

What resolution are you running and have you tried turning up the game settings to put more load on the gpu?

ill try turning up the game settings and my resolution is 1920x1080. can i ask how will turning up the game settings will help? so if i get like 60 fps with max settings it wont help because ill still be on 60 fps, my goal is to have at least 100 fps and i dont really care what settings as long as my cpu isnt going 100%

Turning up game settings won’t increase FPS but will allow you to get the best visuals at your FPS and get more benefit from your gpu.

What is your RAM speed and configuration, 1x8gb, 2x8gb or something else?

i think its 2x8. and if i use max settings how will that change the cpu usage? so for example if i limit the fps to 100 and use lowest settings then it will still go on 100% usage, so im wondering how that will change if i just get the max settings

Ok we need to be sure about your RAM, running single channel will significantly impact performance and I think your 9600k is underperforming. To start you can look in Task Manager, Performance and Memory to see the number of slots used. You can also see the RAM speed. If you do have 2 RAM slots used we still need to check it is running in dual channel mode and to do this we need another program. Download CPU-Z and then look under the Memory tab and see if Channels # is single or dual. Let me know what you find.

Running higher settings will not directly reduce CPU load, however if you can make the GPU load high enough then the limiting factor will be the GPU and not the CPU so the CPU wont hit 100%. You were using V-Sync which not only reduces fps to be inline with the monitors Hz it also introduces input lag, what I am suggesting will not introduce input lag and may not reduce FPD as much as V-Sync. Another way of looking at this, if there are no other limiting factors (for example single channel or slow RAM) then the CPU determines the best FPS you can achieve. The GPU determines at which resolution and game settings you can achieve that FPS at. Now this is over simplified but the principle holds up.

it says the channel is dual and yes it does say 2 slots are used in the task manager

also, i just tried going to the highest settings and it just made it like move from 90-100 and sometimes 80 percent of usage. i really hope that there is a solution to this because it really matters to me

Yes, that’s 3000mhz (2x1500). That is much better, if you experience any system crashes you might have to reduce it. Now try your games again and I hope you see higher FPS. You may still see very high cpu usage but I expect better FPS.
also i accidently touched the boot settings, i had to options and i pressed one of them and nothing happend then i pressed the other one and still nothing happened. should i be worried?

No, normally it would be obvious if you changed anything. Also if the system is behaving normally then don’t worry. Worst case is you would reset to default settings if you had a problem.
