Current spec:
  • Intel i5-3570 3.4G (bought over 7 years ago...)
  • GTX 1070 8GB
  • 16GB of RAM
  • Monitor: LG 34 inch 3440*1440
  • Power: 620W
According to online calculator, it seems the CPU is bottleneck-ing the GPU. Upgrading the CPU would yield significant boost to gaming performance:

I'm mostly gaming on PS4 but occasionally will play on PC for shooting games (upcoming Borderlands 3, Gears of War 5). So I'm thinking of a partial upgrade instead of full re-build.

I'm not sure how much I can trust the data above. Is it worth upgrading?

Thanks.

It depends entirely on how much you are willing to spend.

At 3440x1440 your gtx 1070 will not be enough for new triple A games even if you upgrade your CPU

Probably the cheapest option is to get a i7 3770 or 3770K if you have a Z77 motherboard and RX 5700XT

Alright. I am now thinking of getting a more future-proof CPU+mobo upgrade now and upgrade my GPU latter in the future.

I have got Ryzen 7 3700x and MSI MPG X570 in my shopping cart ... Now I'm not sure how much gain in gaming @ 2K with 1070 I'm going to get before I upgrade my GPU ??
