Question Cpu cheaper than i5-9600k

I'm trying to find a processor that will be able to run sims 4 with a ton of mods that's cheaper than the current I5-9600k in my cart. The i5-9600k is 200 at the moment. I'm putting together a computer for my wife but I want to get her something reliable that can play sins 4 and possibly the new cyberpunk game eventually. Any recommendations or should I stick with what I have?

The most common recommendation would be to ditch Intel and go with an AMD processor.

Ryzen 2700X is cheap for 8 cores 16 threads. Ryzen 3600 is roughly on par with the i5-9600k performance. The i5's value is marginal at best. It can overclock better, but that comes with high costs in motherboard and cooler. AMD doesn't overclock all that well, but you get SMT, overclocking on cheap motherboards, and the stock coolers are adequate for running them at stock.

If still available, hard to beat the performance/dollar of the Ryzen 2600.

but cyperpunk is another thing.

and cpu alone means nothing BTW, you will get same performance with 6400 i5 with RTX 2080 ti and 9900k with RTX2080, its a sum of whole machine, so please share more details of what you already heve

Nothing bought yet. We're probably going to wait until next Cyber Monday to buy anything. Our Max budget is $950 but we're really wanting it lower than that. My wife's not a huge gamer and loves the sims, but she's very interested in cyberpunk and outer worlds at the moment.. I'm not even sure if all the parts I have picked out currently will be compatible with each other or even fit in the computer case. I haven't had much time to research everything yet. But as I said, those costs and products will change before you actually buy, so any conclusions you come to now will no longer be applicable. Plus by then Cyberpunk will have been released, so you'll have a much better idea of what hardware it takes to run it well.

If I were you I wouldn't seriously start parting out my system unless I thought I was going to be buying within the next month, maybe two.

By Black Friday next year, nearly all current parts will be obsolete. The 9600k will have been replaced by the 10600k and possibly also an Ice Lake variant on that new LGA1200 socket. AMD should also have most of its 4th-gen lineup on the market. GPU-wise, we may have next-gen GPUs too. Some DRAM analysts expect prices to rebound by as much as 30%, which could be a major factor in prices going into late 2020.

Asking for opinions a month or two in advance is generally fine since there rarely is more than one variable likely to see significant change over that time scale. Over 11 months though, you can expect everything other than DRAM to change completely.

Trying to pick parts now, for a system you intend to build a year from now, is a waste of time. It's not like buying a car. We will have a newer generation of parts, from AMD and Intel, by then.

True but building similar systems a year apart could have a massive difference in price. Recently SSD's and Memory have dropped significantly in price but by next year could go up. Could equate to $200+ in price difference.

that thing is all over the place. CPU is way to strong for GPU, 4 GB of ram is a joke, the cyperpunk will need 16 GB at least.
GTX 1650 is a low end card that will not play cyperpunk at any resonable rate predicted minimum GPU to play cyberpunk:

I will point out why it will work way better than your current:

1. ryzen 3600 is almost as good for gaming as 9600k but cheapper. (and way stronger for anything non-gaming)
2. 16GB of ram will allow way more things run fast before whole thing will slow down. (even 50+ chrome tabs at once, i know woman love to have millions of tabs open)
3. big ssd as they are only 2x the price of hdd and way faster/more eco.
