I'm not sure if this thread belongs here, but I'm upgrading my cpu and I'm getting an error message that reads "Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions. " Currently I'm using an MSI B350 Tomahawk MOBO with an AMD Ryzen 5 1400, I've recently bought a Ryzen 5 3600. As mentioned above I'm getting this message so I was wondering if it wasn't compatible or if I just needed to update the BIOS and if so how I would do that, thanks. New Build, Old, current build.

Solution
@CountMike - I think you might be looking at the GPU column.

From the 7A34V10.ZIP file:
1. This is AMI BIOS release

2. This BIOS fixes the following problem of the previous version:
  • Update AMD ComboPI1.0.0.3a
  • Support Ryzen 3000 series CPU.
Ryzen 9 3900X/Ryzen 7 3800X/Ryzen 7 3700X/Ryzen 5 3600X/Ryzen 5 3600/Ryzen 5 3400G/Ryzen 3 3200G
- Change BIOS UI to click BIOS(GSE-Lite) mode.

3. 2019/7/11

@jochar32 - Yes, you will need to update the BIOS of your motherboard before installing the new CPU.

I don't se a compatible BIOS for 3rd gen Ryzen https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B350-TOMAHAWK#support-cpu

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B350-TOMAHAWK

The 3600 is in the list of the supported CPU.

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B350-TOMAHAWK#support-cpu

Pretty sure it needs Version 7A34v1OR(Beta version)Release Date 2019-12-04 of your BIOS for that CPU to work.

The message you're getting is exactly what it means. Your BIOS needs to be updated to the latest version available for your motherboard before you can use the 3600. Put back the 1400 and flash your bios to the version above and swap the CPU to the 3600.
