Ok so i knew buying a fx 8350 would be risky because so many people say it sucks but i dont know why i didnt wanna believe it and i bought it because it would be cheaper than an intel but turns out im gonna be spending just as much...
When i start playing it overheats, and after a while shuts down, temps around 60, ive heard its not good... so im looking for a cooler that allows me to play any game i want without shutting down...

My motherboard is a gigabyte ga 970a ud3p and i have one ram 8gb ddr3 1600mhz, my psu is 600w, my graphics card is a gtx960, will a cpu cooler be enough or do you have any other suggestions? I'm thinking about the noctua nh-d14, but will the cooler solve my problem? I've heard of some people that have a cooler and it still shuts down while playing so...

Solution
A properly installed Noctua NH-D14 will do the job. You have a 125W CPU and the Noctua will provide sufficient cooling for that even if you overclock.

you have a good motherboard that will run the chip without throttling.

There are quite a few coolers that would work, some cheaper. Where are you located? (It affects relative price and availability)

Here's our thinking on coolers. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-cpu-coolers,4181.html

Even something like the CRYORIG H7 would work well. The budget Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is good, but it can be a bear to install which I why I recommend the slightly more expensive CRYORIG.

Are you just using the stock cooler? I'm assuming your CPU is also running at stock speeds (no overclocking). If you're using the stock AMD cooler almost anything will be better (like a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo). TBH, 60C might throttled your CPU a little bit, but it shouldn't result in a shutdown. Take the side off your case, point a household fan at it and then play some games or whatever. If it shuts down its probably not from overheating.

What would you say it is then? I don't want to be buying a cooler to find out it's not overheating and it's another issue

Did you take the side of your case off, point a fan at it and try it? Only way you'll know. From there it could be power supply, graphics card, memory - you just have to test each one. But you do need to eliminate the possibility of overheating being the problem first.
