Hello guys, i have an ''Intel core 2 quad Q8300'' 2,5 ghz and i've been watching my temperatures since the last summer and i can see that the temperatures on the cores are going higher every month. in September the temps were like 55-56C with heavy usage and now its winter and its 60C so in this way of thinking in the next summer my CPU will be around 65-66C and i think thats bad, but thats not my question. I wanted to ask in SpeedFan what should i watch the CPU temps or the Core 0,1,2,3 temps ? Because my max CPU temps are 50 and my cores are 60,51,55 and 50. So is that normal ? I mean i'm afraid if my cores really go up to 65C.

This is probably because the thermal interface material (thermal paste) between your cpu and cpu cooler is starting to wear off. Open your pc, take off your cpu cooler, remove the thermal paste using alcohol (preferably 99% isopropyl alcohol) and apply new thermal paste.

Under 85C on a Core 2 is perfectly fine long term. I'd clean out your case, particularly the fans. The "CPU" temp on a Core 2 Quad is the temperature at the junction between the two processors (core 2 quads are 2 core 2 duo processors on one package), so it will always be 5-10C cooler than the cores. The core temperature is what you should be relying on for diagnostics.

The thermal interface material "wearing out" is fairly unlikely unless you used one of the fairly short-lived exotic thermal pastes like Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra. OEM pastes and ones like Arctic Silver 5 or IC Diamond last well enough that you'd unlikely to ever have a problem with them. If you run out of ideas you can try replacing the paste, but it's not the first thing I'd do. And remember if you're using a pre-installed thermal pad (like the stock one installed on most coolers) you need to replace it if you remove the cooler, they're single use only.

The idea that thermal interface materials wear out quickly comes from the sector of people who constantly replace the paste on their systems in order to always have paste installed that hasn't fully cured. It might net you a 1-2C advantage at best, and it's a big pain.

Under 85C ? I saw the max temperatures for my CPU are 70-75C. So around 60C is good ? I'll change my thermal paste ( I know how to do that, i used to do it before) and see how things will work. I just saw it went to 61C and i'm in a really cold room right now.. i'm really worried about what's going to happen in the summer when the temperatures in the room go up.
