W10/W11 my CPU fan would go to full speed on waking > 3000 RPM on temps < 40 deg 'C'. Not when I boot or reboot just waking from sleep and it would stay at 100%.

I don't know why it is but in my case its the Steam client running and it only affects the fan on waking from sleep.

To test:
1- Close the Steam client that would be running on the System Tray, you can also check with Task Manager that there are no other instances running as well.
2- Place computer to sleep.
3- Wake the PC and log on, the CPU fan should just run at normal speeds.

Since closing Steam fixes the issue for me I have set up Task in Task schedule to close Steam on going to sleep, so if it also resolves your issue you can create a scheduled task in Task manager to close Steam before going to sleep.

I was going to post an image of my Task created settings from my Hdd but I cannot find the tab. all tabs want http:// or url address for image or media. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction for inserting an image from my PC.

Happy New Year!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Since closing Steam fixes the issue
Does uninstalling and reinstalling the app/launcher help alleviate the issue? Looking it up on Google, there are numerous instances of the issue stemming from 2017 and pretty much centered around people owning an Alienware prebuilt and their Command Center app was what paired with Steam to cause the fan to ramp up unnecessarily or rather since it sensed a load was induced on the CPU.

I would but I get tired of trolls telling me I need a new PC because it's to old. For the record it's an old 2010 Lenovo S20 that still going strong with no issues and does everything I need it to do even running W11.

No, so much so that that it has been constant irritant that has been running W10 then W10 Upgraded to W11 then 3 months ago clean W11 install.

I will add that on rare occasions it has run at 100% percent when booting out of Linux and into Windows. Rebooting settles it down then just as above close Steam before going to sleep mode.

Final Note: I posted the possible solution that works for me for I couldn't find anything on the internet over the years as well as everything tried failed. As it was never a hardware or bios issue to my recollection as I found the solution by accident.
