I am replacing a CPU cooling fan. The problem I have is the connector on the replacement is different. The replacement fans plug is bigger and it appears wiring is in different order. The fan I am replacing has red black white. But, the replacement is black red blue. I am assuming red to red, black to black, and blue to white (pretty sure for tach). Just want to make sure before I start splicing wires.

Solution
Hi
If I were you I would try the fan with a 9V battery or a 5V to 12V power supply like an old phone charger or similar to ensure that the red and black are correct, you don't really want to short your motherboard out.
