So I bought my ASUS laptop back in January 12th, and its been on for a total of about erm, nearly two months? Laptop runs nearly 24 hours a day and since my specific laptop version has a very silly cooling design, the fan never stops spinning even when idle. Recently I found out how dirty it was like just a gentle tap to the back side of my laptop would cause dust to exit through the exit vents. Cleaned that up. I then heard a rattling noise (Not after cleaning the fan, I heard the rattling noise before even cleaning it). Every time my laptop starts, the fan makes a rattling noise, then disappears after about 5-10 mins. It reappears again every now and then at a different time. Could this be the bearings going bad or is it because the magnetic motor has somehow been damaged causing the whole fan to shake.. There is no grinding noise.

Not really an expert in fans.. I only know that if my fan is starting to make a grinding noise then the bearings are going bad.

Solution
Rattling noise are usually dry bearings/bad bearings, but on new laptop that its totally weird, unless it stayed at shop for quite long time.
Well usually suggestion is to replace it, if you have a bit skill you could oil it a tiny bit (just a slight drop) and test out if it does still rattle.

As part for oil, this could sound crazy by me I used typical oil or as my brother cooking oil (used) which i also use on my bike.

Oh just to add, sometimes the clip that holds the axle of the fan blades can jump out if you droped it once (its usually behind the sticker of the fan).

Ah, Ill check. Still in the middle of my exams so its hard to find the time to open my laptop. I never dropped it so I doubt its the clip. Ill try add oil once I have the time to open it. I also have oil specifically for bearings in hand so I wouldnt have to worry finding oil.
