Cpu fan problem.

I have a gateway lx6810 and a couple of weeks ago after i woke up i went to trun it on and the fanw as very loud. I updated the bios and it still was loud. I want to get a fan controller but the fan is a 4-pin PSM fan. I tried controlling it with speedfan but it didnt work. I want to know if the 3-pin fan controller wou,d work on my 4-pin.

The 3 pin fan would work on a 4 pin header, but you want be able to control the speed of the fan because it needs the 4th pin.
