[SOLVED] CPU fan spins like crazy

Evening.

When my computer boots, the CPU fan just goes nuts and spins VERY fast. At boot a message (I assume from BIOS) that says: CPU Fan Failure. It surely isn't overheating due to the speed that it spins. I'd say 3500+ rpm due to the noise. The silly thing is that according to speedfan it's 750 rpm. I am getting annoyed by the noise. Ideas?

I forgot to mention, I just changed thermal paste. Arctic MX-4. Loving it tbh.

Is it the stock fan?

Are you sure the fan is plugged into the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard?

Since you changed the paste you obviously removed the CPU cooler so may have plugged it into a normal CASE fan slot (i.e. "FAN_1") or perhaps the "CPU_OPTIONAL" slot.

Also.. I recommend the motherboard fan control software (from the company support site) if it exists. Most motherboards have it though it may be part of a larger program.

If it's the stock fan there are better performing quieter options.

Make sure the connector is actually set on all 4 pins, not sidestepped and only on 3 pins

No, I didn't plug it elsewhere.
No, I didn't jump pins.
Yes, I am planning on buying a thermaltake fan.
