CPU fan wont scew into motherboard

Hey, so i'm building my first pc here and i am trying to screw the cpu fan into the motherboard, i've lined it up with the holes but when i try screw it down nothing happens and it wont stay!

First thing is - that fan and heatsink are dirty. Clean them up with compressed air before installing.
Second - you need to make sure cooler is designed for your type of socket (1150)
Third - if it is boxed cooler, your motherboard manual has detailed info on all steps required to install it. If it is aftermarket cooler, check the manufacturer's website for manual.

looks like your missing a backplate for the cpu socket for the cooler to screw into.

That heatsink looks like dell coolers where the motherboard try has standoff on it to screw the cooler into instead of using a backplate for the socket.
