cpu heat problem

is it safe to gaming with 85c dgrees for the cpu?
my pc spec:
i7 4790 3.6ghz
gtx 1060 3gb
ram 8gb ddr3
z87x ud4h
psu : 600w solid atx

That's high for gaming. It would be normal if the cpu was running stock under 100% full load with it's included stock heat sync. Are you using an aftermarket cooler?

no.. 85 should be the worst scenario.. at around 95-100 it stops operating.. you are at the throttling limit w/o even O.C.

Not ideal but it shouldn't hurt it. Heat+high vcore Is bad but the nonk chips can take it.

No, throttling occurs at 100c. I have two builds with 4790k's and have tested this. How many 4790k builds do you have?
The fact that he's gaming and is getting that high of a temperature is a problem no doubt. Games don't stress the cpu at 100% load constantly so he needs to look into why those temps are that high.

That's the problem. It's a cheap $20 cpu cooler. If your spending $300 on an intel core i7 chip, what's another $50 to ensure your cpu runs cool? If properly reapplying thermal compound doesn't resolove the issue, I'd suggest getting a better cpu cooler.

but i was using the cooler with no problems recently i got this problem

I know these are basic and troublesome, but:

- have you tried re-applying thermal compound?
- have you dusted out your computer? This is a recent problem as you've said, might be the case

Before this recent problem, what kind of temperatures are you seeing? I would get a better cooler later for your CPU because it deserves it and you certainly don't want it to always be hot during gaming. Have you capped the frame-rate to your monitor's refresh rate (I assume 60hz)?

It's not like it's an absolute need, seeing as how you haven't mentioned it going past 85, but please do try the things I've mentioned. There are plenty of good (within reason) coolers that would meet a budget and expectations.

(To answer the question, it is safe to keep it at there while gaming, though it would be recommended to look into a different cooler or provide the conditions where it doesn't reach that point. Of course, I'm assuming that you don't have long gaming periods)
