I recently upgraded my computer to an I7 7700k and MSI z270 M5 Gaming motherboard.
I never bothered to upgrade my cooler which is a Corsair h80i (not the v2 (the cooler is about 4 years old)).
I don't understand the temperature sometimes as when it's idle it will be between 40-50 and it will spike up to 80+. This is when it's running at 4.2ghz - not even overclocked. When I do overclock it ends up spiking up to around 91 degrees. Whilst gaming I get temperatures between 70 and 80. is this normal? I reapplied the thermal paste for my cooler and it didn't make much difference in temperature.
Are these normal temperatures? If not, should I upgrade my cooler? I want to get the lowest temperature as possible with an AIO cooler. Would more intake/ exhaust fans work?
I was looking into AIO cooler upgrades and I would prefer to get a 240mm/ 280mm RAD that I can mount at the top/ front of a case. However, I have a corsair 300r gaming case (mid-tower) and the motherboards size does not allow me to mount a 280mm / 240mm to the top. And It would require modding to install it at the front.
I'd prefer not to purchase a new case just to install a bigger cooler.. My PC is underneath a desk in a corner just so you can get an idea of the airflow. Currently the fans are setup as 2 front intakes and the back exhaust push/pull radiator. Would buying a new 140mm back exhaust rad suffice or would it be better to upgrade to a 280mm? Such as a corsair h80i v2. are there better ones? This is all dependant if the temperatures are abnormal.
If you suggest a 280mm rad - are there any mid-tower cases that provides enough room from the top to the motherboard that will allow me to install a radiator of this size to the top of the case.
Thank you for reading! Any advice/ information would be greatly appreciated!!
