CPU high usage

Tonight I played cs 1.6 on my friend's 4 year old laptop with i5 3210m (dual core) processor and his cpu core 0 and 1 usage was around 40%. Though he has 4 threads (2 for each core). My cpu is quad core with single thread for each core....now my query is that my core 0 is always at 80-85% in game and other cores at 35% , 5%, 15% while his old lappy has both core settled at 40%....does it sound absurd??? I thought that my new cpu i5 4440 will be far more faster than that of his dual core mobile one. I know thats a single core game but its eating some of my other cores too. Need help !

That's normal , considering the game is using only on core.
There's nothing wrong about that.
Your CPU is clearly faster than you friend's. The processor performance is not calculated by the usage.

The single core rating of your i5-4440 is about 20% better than the 3210M.
Still that does not explain all.

Likely, your graphics card is more capable than that of a laptop and your are using more cycles to drive the game at higher fps.

And, windows will rotate activity among the available cores so a single threaded game will not look like it is cpu bound when it really is.

Thank U very much Geofelt....I forgot to mention that I play on highest graphics without any dedicated card (only with Intel HD Graphics 4600). So U say that is normal? Silly question from me though.....still trying to be 100% sure...(I believe in CHUMP though) 😀

But ChumP, sorry for harassing you again....my other cores are also being used at 15-25%....So is that normal too? (Being considered as a single core game)
