I have a fairly budget gaming setup, A GTX-1050 ti and an i5-2500, I plan to upgrade the I5-2500 to an i7-2700k, I plan to use this setup for a game called "rust" on steam i have heared it is a CPU intensive game and was wondering if i would notice any considerable increase in FPS / benefit from the upgrade. Is it worth my money? if not can you recommend a CPU that would be a better fit for my needs My motherboard has a LGA1155 socket. Iam in the price range of around £100 to £160

Dell OptiPlex 790 SFF Small Form Factor Intel LGA1155 Motherboard D28YY 0D28YY

I believe this is the motherboard i own the PSU may also be a restriction to consider as it is only 240W but i have asked on here previously and the i7-2700k seems to have very similar power consumption to the standard i5- 2500 the optiplex comes with

It is no guarantee, that it will work, as that is an OEM rig. An i7 2600, was an option, for your system, so that is probably the safe bet. Given your system though, it is probably your graphics, that are holding you back, and upgrading that system is next to impossible, due to the weak PSU. It is time for a new rig, to be honest. Even an AMD APU would be superior, to what you have now, as I highly doubt your current graphics are faster than that.

The gtx 1050 ti is probably the strongest component in my rig :p the dated i5 2500 and slower RAM are probably holding it back

Does it work

TBH, would be better off simply building a cheap amd system with 1600x and bit more ram.

It is around £180 (can get under £160 if you get 8gb ram, but 16 is best, can probably make that 20 by hunting for sales tbh) The cpu has a lower power draw than the intel, and 3x the threads, it will give you a very big performance boost over the intel. (might be mini itx mobo not micro atx, still can't find super solid info, its all super generic, but if it is mini itx, it will likely be £30 or so more)
