looking to build a system from used eBay components. I know what other components I am using but I am a little stuck at the cpu and motherboard. I can spend up to $150 with the cpu and motherboard but I would like to go closer to $100. I will use this computer for animating and rendering/editing video projects, streaming and playing games, and doing general web browsing and school work. I am debating whether to get a xeon x5680, E5 2670 v1, e3 1225 v3, or an E5 1620 v2. I am also using the cooler master q300l micro atx case but I can also change this. my gpu that it will be paired with is a gtx 1060 6gb. here is some information that I've compiled for each option.
x5680:
- lga1366 socket
- with motherboard I'm using (hp truckee mobo), 6 ram slots with up to 24gb ram (4gb dimm 1333mhz per slot max)
- passmark single threaded performance of 1438
- 6 core 12 threads
- Clockspeed: 3.3 GHz, Turbo Speed: 3.6 GHz
- bios updates are tricky with this mobo
- no io shield, sata cables, usb 3.0, and no 4 pin fan headers
- supports sli (2 pcie x16)
- total cost of cpu+mobo =$105
e5 2670 v1:
- lga 2011 socket
- Chinese motherboard supports up to 64gb ram (4 slots)
- 1 pcie x16 2 pcie x4 usb 3.0 header, 4 pin fan headers, sata cables, Driver disc, io shield
- Clockspeed: 2.6 GHz, Turbo Speed: 3.3 GHz
- 8 cores 16 threads
- passmark single thread is 1574
- total cost = $135
e5 1620 v2:
-lga2011 socket
- same motherboard and specs as e5 2670
- Clockspeed: 3.7 GHz, Turbo Speed: 3.9 GHz
- Single Thread Rating: 1959
- 4 cores 8 threads
- total cost = $120
e3 1225 v3:
- lga 1150 socket
- has several motherboard options including cheap asus motherboards that are very good quality ($50 deluxe)
- not as good of a cpu as the others, main benefit is reliable and trustworthy motherboard
- Clockspeed: 3.2 GHz, Turbo Speed: 3.6 GHz
- 4 cores, 4 threads (no hyper threading)
- Single Thread Rating: 2016 (best)
- total cost =$100
main attractions for each
x5680 - cheapest combo and supports sli
2670 - most cores
1620 - higher clock speed and single thread rating than 2670 but half the cores
1225 - good motherboard
I would like some assistance to help point out anything I might be missing and whether more cores or better single thread performance are the smarter option. Also any other cpu + motherboard combo ideas in this price range would be very welcome.
