CPU / MOBO suggestions

hi. I'm building a pc and would like some suggestions for what cpu / mobo to use, the specs of it are a 500w psu, a raidmax viper 2 case, R9 280 gpu, I'm not looking for anything crazy, just a basic build for low medium end gaming. thank you for your time

Do you already have the case, PSU and graphics card? If you have a Raidmax PSU, I would strongly suggest replacing it as well. What monitor are you using? Budget?

my psu is an evga 500 watt + I have everything I listed, and I have no ram as of yet, I'm looking for a budget of around 200, 250 tops

The i3 is a much better processor for gaming because it has stronger single threaded performance.
