Hello,
I just purchased an alienware j560m ms-7543 with an lga 1366 socket and not thinking a purchased an intel xeon L5520. the setup is was going to be for gameing and it is my first build! appearantly im in need of direction. Please someone point me in the right direction!

Wow. I would return it and get a system that hasn’t been discontinued. 1366’s where discontinued last year.

Most of the processors that will fit that socket are very expensive and the newer series of LGA 1155/2011 outperform them and are much less expensive.
Amazon is your best bet to find a processor for that, don’t even look at the Westmere line. You want an Intel® Core i7X 980X (4GHz/12MB cache), Intel® Core i7X 980X(3.33GHz/12MB cache), Intel® Core i7 960 (3.2GHz/8MB cache), Intel® Core i7 970 (3.23GHz/12MB cache)

You’re looking at $319-$1000 for a used processor that performs like a high end i3 or a mid range i5.

nope didnt pay retail for the cpu and appearantly didnt do enough looking up the board itself, i had heardthey were discontinued but didnt really understand why and also the current os is vista anyhow was just going to go to 7 if that makes any diff
