Hello,
I'm getting astounding levels of static/sounds coming through my speakers and I'd love some suggestions to see if I can get rid of it! The noise increases ten fold when I move the mouse and if I load something like Farcry 3 (that's the worst I've seen it) it's seriously peaking.
Please note: this is only while I run through my speakers. When using headphones there is no whine/static etc at all.
I have done my research and it seems a lot of people have a similar problem except they often have it through their headphones as well. I've tried a lot of the fixes but in my case the static/CPU noise persists!
My testing has led me to believe it has nothing to do with the GPU. I tried removing that completely and the static was just the same. I don't think it is the actual Xonar STX because I have tried that in 2 different PCI slots with the same outcome. I tried removing it all together and using the on board sound and the noise was still at the same pitch and volume. I don't believe it is the interconnects because I have tried changing those to shielded cables, tried cleaning the contacts and moving the cables around to see if I could find a 'sweet spot' with no difference what so ever. I don't believe it is the speakers because if I run something as low-fi as my iPod as the source there is no hum!
I've moved onto the BIOS and tried disabling the EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology) and all of the 'C' mode things. I read that this fixed a similar issue for some people. No dice.
Unless someone has another suggestion for me to try, I'm at a junction;
- Is a ground loop isolator likely to clean up my problem?
- Buy a hum reducing thing such as a ART CleanBOX II or ART DTI 2?
- Do I just buy an external DAC and use that when using my speakers? This sucks as I like to use the EQ a bit on the Xonar software.
My system;
Asus Z87 Gryphon
4670k @ 4.4GHz
EVGA Titan
Asus Xonar STX
Corsair AX 860
Audio setup;
Swan H4 Monitors
Swan H10 Sub
Sennheiser PC 360
