CPU or GPU? Monitor will shut down and turn on again, the software will crash

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.7 GHz, GTX 1060, 16 GBs of RAM, and 520w of PSU.

My display crashes, when rendering high setting 3D frame using Maya, rendering in Mental Ray. Sometimes, even on 2D animation software like Toon Boom Harmony. My CPU goes up to 85deg Celsius in stock cooler.

What's the problem, CPU or GPU or other?

Do you recommend me to upgrade my GPU to GTX 1070?

It varies from 35 deg to 45 deg for my CPU and 30-40 for my GPU. I think I overclocked my memory (2400 to 2666) and my CPU to 3 to 3.7 (Max Boost Clock)

Okay, I'll take note of that. My PSU is from Seasonic, Seasonic M12II-520 EVO Bronze 80Plus Power Supply 520watts Modular.

Yes, when I'm gaming. It performs well. No lags. Except when I animate or rendering in 3D w/ high settings

My CPU is the one that's rendering. My GPU use only varies around 3-10% while rendering

Yes, my GPU, CPU, and ram are on their stock speeds. Actually, there's a minimal changes. When rendering, my display still crashes. I think it was 3 tries when I finally rendered a full frame in 23 minutes of rendering.

Drop your memory back to 2133 in your BIOS and see how your system performs. Is your display crashing, or going into power saving mode?

Looks like your heatsink is getting overwhelmed (85c cited earlier). I have multiple Ryzen rigs (and built several more) and I don't use those heatsinks. I find their performance middle of the road while being loud. There are better cooling solutions.

Okay, I'll try that.

It will go into power saving mode, then it will open back.

Okay, I'll search for better cooling solutions. Thank you for your answers btw

Do you recommend to upgrade to GTX 1070?
