CPU or GPU

Current system = Dell XPS i7 4770 non k. 16gb. 1070 FTW. Asus 1080p/144hz monitor.

Trying to get a steady 144hz in BF1 in low settings just doesn't happen. 85-120fps, jumps higher at times. CPU usage 80-85%. GPU usage 55-60%.

At Ultra settings 75-90fps. CPU usage 75-80%. GPU usage 75-80%.

I was about to upgrade CPU/Mobo/Ram to the i7 7700k and upgrade the GPU in a few months. Or will a better GPU give me my 144fps before the 7700k will? It seems to me like the 4770 is not allowing the GPU to run at a higher usage?

Battlefield 1 is one of the most CPU limited AAA games of 2016/2017, so a better CPU will definitely help (though it will still most likely not be locked 144hz). I'd say choose between the 7700k and the r7 1700.

OK Thx. Just needed some sort of confirmation. Looks like I will do the 7700k route and a 1080ti in the coming months.

And yes, I will spend that kind of money to get 144hz and 1080p. Plus hopefully make a few bucks on my current parts.

Your current PC is still quite capable and strong. Your expectations of what it should do in a very demanding game are what needs to be "upgraded".

I know my current setup is still strong jeffredo, but changing expectations will not give me more FPS.
