CPU Overheating after cleaning.

My gaming PC that I built around Christmas time had become to get dusty so I decided to clean it out. I have a default Intel CPU cooler that was getting full of dust so i completely took the cooler off the CPU and sprayed all the dust out with a can of compressed air. After I set the cooler back on and checked the temperatures i noticed that they were very very high at idle. They are getting to around 80-90 degrees Celsius but before the cleanup it was idling at about 40 Celsius. I'm suspecting it is a possible thermal paste issue that occurred with me taking the cooler off, so i ordered AS5 to hopefully get the temperatures in order. IF you think it is something else or have anything to add please tell men. All answers are helpful!

You didn't clean off cooler and cpu surfaces and re-apply thermal paste??

If so, then do NOT run computer until you re-apply thermal paste

when you say think its to do with the paste... did you actually clean the paste and re-apply it? or did you do the silly and just put it back on?

I did indeed do the silly thing i will remove and apply the new thermal paste when it gets delivered next Monday thank you for clearing up my problem.

😛 for future reference it makes an airtight seal.

Once you break it there is air in the seal. and air is a wonderful insulator.

So i applied the new thermal paste artic silver 5 and it has no difference whatsoever on teh temperature im so frustrated right now i have no idea what i can do please help if you can

how much have you put on? and is the cooler fan actually spinning?

How did you apply the thermal paste?
Also, check your cpu voltage - could the voltage have gotten set too high someway?
