CPU Overheating Even Though Cooler Is Functional

Issue - So when playing games recently my PC has started to crash when checking it says my CPU is around 79°C, i figured this may be my cooler but after checking the pump still seems to be going (i felt the tubes and could feel the liquid moving) and the fan is still going, i have ran a virus scan and that did not find anything.

CPU - i7 4790k (not overclocked)
Motherboard - ASUS B85 PRO GAMER
RAM - 16gb DDR3
GPU - EVGA GTX 1070 FTW
Storage - 2x 1tb HDD
PSU- corsair 750 watt
OS - Windows 10

You may have an issue with the thermal paste on CPU/HS interface.

Remove HS clean all old paste off and then re-apply (Just one drop).

well the 4790k can operate without issues up to 90C. so 79C shouldn't cause any CPU issues. What Power Supply are you running? It could be a PSU related issue. The liquid cooler may also have to be cleaned and refreshed. Because although it is 79C, maybe during load it is peeking over 100C.

Try and refresh you're Liquid cooler. These are the challenges that Liquid cooled machines have to face. Whereas air cooled machines can just run without the thought of maintenance for several years.

what do you mean refresh it? (its an AIO by the way)

i have replaced the thermal paste but it still crashes the only thing that has changed is now instead of saying "CPU over temperature error" now it says "CPU fan error"but the pump and fan are connected and i can still feel the liquid flowing in the pipes

can you look at your Bios settings to ignore fan speed alarms.

Run in Bios for a while to see CPU temperatures.

I am guessing that you may have a problem with the Mobo sensors.
How long before it crashes?

on the new error make sure on the asus mb your using the cpu fan header and not the cpu alt header. the other header is for pumps and not for cpu fans. look at the pump and your pc with a good led flashlight see if there been any leaking of the cooler. with those sealed units if air gets inside or there was a small leak the pump will work but there may be an air bubble or the fliud low. i would do an rma on the cooler just to make sure.

return matrial autozation form. or an ok to return the doa product for replacement.

If it is still under warranty, return it.

If not get a quote on repair and consider if you are better off with a new one.

Alternately start with a new MOBO/CPU/RAM. (You may as well use this opportunity to move to newer Generation).
Not sure what you can salvage from your current machine as it is AIO.
