I put together my pc not more than two or three months ago and its been giving me a "CPU Overtemp Error" after bios screen. In bios its been stuck on 89°c and blasting my fan. I had an Intel i3-6300 originally but it was a big bottleneck so I swapped for a i7-6700k. With the i3 I was able to clear the error because I applied too much compound, however I havent been able to fix the error with the i7.
Ive done probably everything suggested on a lot forums from here and elsewhere including, re-paste therm compound, re-set the cooler, reinstall the chip, make sure bios is updated, make sure theres just enough therm paste, etc. So im rather lost. I also switched from TG-3 paste to Arctic Silver 5.
I bought hardware yesterday including a new cooler, cleared the bios, started fresh, and yet its still there. I downloaded HWmonitor and it lists under i7-6700k, the temps of the individual cores and the package between 20°c and 30°c idle but then above under ASUSTek, its saying Mainboard at 121°c and CPU at 100°c. Outside of that, its been doing fantastic, I just dont want to burn out the motor or bearing in the fan, plus I want it to be a little more quiet.
