Hi guys,
First time on here so here`s hoping...
I have an Intel D850GB Motherboard socket 423 (replacement) - brought this for a friends PC (yes it`s very old).
I am sure there is nothing wrong with CD drive, hard drive, graphics card, power supply and RAM.
When I leave the 4 pin CPU power connector out the machine fires up but obviously does not POST, when I plug the power in the whole thing is dead apart from the little green light on the Motherboard. The battery on the motherboard is fine.
I have taken the CPU out of an old motherboard that failed and inserted it into the new one, before the old motherboard failed I replaced a ram card - which was working fine before I removed it - and began to smell electrical burning. I am 100% sure that the RAM was inserted properly but after this the motherboard would not POST - this is exactly the same situation I have with the new board with new RAM.
As I have not had the new board (second hand) running I can`t check the BIOS settings - I don`t have the Floppy drive plugged in just HD and CD drives - Would the lack of a floppy drive cause no power up with an old MB?
After all that the main question is do you guys think the CPU is fried or could it be something else?
Paul
