As of right now this is my PC:
i7 5820k
ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME Motherboard
16GB (2x8 by accident) 3000Mhz DDR4 Corsair Vengeance Low Profile
EVGA ACX 2.0 980
AX760 Corsair PSU
Corsair H100i CPU Cooler

I had been persuaded to get the i7 5820k over the i7 6700k. I only game as of now, but I am going to college next fall. I may be able to make use to the two extra cores. I have overclocked the CPU to 4ghz and 4.5Ghz to make up for the IPC, and atleast according to CPU-Z's benchmarker, I managed to close the gap in single core performance. But it also said I out performed a stock speed i7 5960x.

As far as real world performance, I have lost around 10FPS average over what I was getting before with my i5 4690k. I ran Battlefield 4 ultra settings 125% resolution scale, Star Wars Battlefront EA ultra settings 125% resolution scale, and Grand Theft Auto V (which was actually benefited by 10FPS), along with older games I have.

I have multiple questions.

1. I have seen several youtube videos, and benchmarks saying that the i7 5820k can actually out perform the i7 6700k even at stock speeds in regards to video games. BF4 was tested and it show the 5820k just a few FPS higher. So what is up?

2. Could dual channel RAM be the problem. I have tried XMP and my own overclock. NOTHING works. I don't even get a boot, instead a black screen with a underscore blinking in the upper left corner. Would Quad channel fix this and my gaming problem?

3. i7 6700k vs i7 5820k

Please post your opinion ASAP thank you and Happy New Year!

The Frostbite engine (BF4 + Battlefront) is just extremely weird and performance just randomly varies on each system EVEN if the specs are the same. So don't judge your performance based from those games, you have a near-perfect system.

I have friend running i5-4690k + SLI GTX 970. The benchmarks done by others in BF4 show unreal results with ultra preset at 1080p managing 130+ fps results easy with the same setup. Meanwhile my friends system is dropping below 60 fps in no matter which setting. He can't get the game to run anywhere near good as It's supposed to be.

Judge from the CPU benchmark.

1) DDR3 has lower latencies so might even give boost in some games it really depend what we compare
2) 5820k has HT on and some games seems to don't like that.
3) No info about used drivers, newer don't equal better.
4) Different OS, I believe you had to reinstall it on the new PC, meaning it was not the same testing environment.
So on and on...

Could my RAM be the problem?. Also. On Siege of Shanghai I get 70-80s. But in front of Objective 'C' building on the side not near the water, I get a massive drop to 50-60 when I look at the burning car. My CPU utilization is only around the 30s also.

I used all latest drivers, chipset, etc. I did not use latest BIOS. I updated one of the dual BIOS an ran into booting problems.
I did reinstall windows. I have windows 8.1 with the windows 10 upgrade

Frostbite doesn't make sense. I have had questions of over 50 builds about Battlefield 4 and they're all related. From a friend to loads seeking help about the game. Exact same type of issues. My friend is an example also of ''Why is everyone except for me getting great performance''?

But anyways just try 358.50 and see how your performance improves. Take it from me that It's not your system, It's 100% related to the game. A potential upgrade to Win 10 could change your performance so try that first if you still think a hardware upgrade is the best option.

I think the main difference it makes is in the heavy areas indeed. Where your fps dips a lot you get higher fps with 358.50.

If you mean the Nvidia driver, it doesn't matter which chipset is used on it. I saw best performance throughout on driver number 358.50.
