I'm looking to upgrade my CPU to something that will run all modern titles and then some.

My specs are:
GPU- Gtx 1060 6gb
CPU - AMD FX-8120
RAM - 12 GB

I'm looking to replace my cpu like I said but I'm not sure what would be a good replacement for it. I'm not sure what exactly will fit in place of it. I believe the slot on my motherboard is a AM3+

Thanks!

This would be a great starting point, which would also allow for a much better processor upgrade later down the line.

Why would it be bad to spend money on the am3+ platform. I have enough for a new processor if need be but I just want something that I can utilize my gpu with and just play some games without having to switch everything to a new motherboard and have to get another copy of windows for even more money..

A newer AM3+ processor would be an upgrade, but it wont be a substantial one at that.
Sure it would probably solve your issues for the most part, but an intel or ryzen processor would offer vastly improved price/dollar.

Additionally, you can transfer windows, depending on the version.

Ah okay. I have never transferred motherboards before and am more or less looking for a fix that will hold up for a while.
If I have to transfer motherboards and what not I will however, I would rather not atm. Is there any chipsets for a decent price for am3+ that will hold up for now and allow me to play games no problem?

Toss in something like an 8320 or 8370 if you really need a quick "fix" (its not going to be very impressive) instead of replacing other hardware.
When you are ready, youll need to look into transferring windows licenses (they get tied to your MS account), new motherboards, RAM, and processor.

Okay thank you very much. I appreciate it.

Also, would this fit in my pc? If not, why not? As well as that, if it does would it be a good solution? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113326

Alright. Thanks again! One last thing. What motherboard combo with a cpu would you personally upgrade to with 200$ being the max amount?
