cpu swap help?

Can i swap a sandy bridge processor for an ivybridge if they both use a LGA1155 Socket

Check your motherboard's CPU support list - many SB motherboards can take IB CPUs but this is still far from universal. If you are lucky, all you need is a BIOS upgrade.

Should work but check the mobo's website to see if the sb cpu is supported. It may require a bois update.

Its on the supported list but where would i find out whether i need a BIOS update im quite new to this haha

Update BIOS beforehand - it would suck if you would not boot and will have to stick back old CPU just to flash BIOS.

The process is very easy nowadays, for Gigabyte it is literally downloading the tool they provide and running it in Windows. I'm sure Asrock has a similar application.

Just pray that you don't get a troll power outage during the 1 minute it takes to update.
