good morning everyone

cpu : i7 4790
cooler : cooler master masterliquid pro 120
motherboard : Asrock b85 killer
GPU : gtx 1060 gigabyte

everything is fine when i start the PC for 5 minutes, then the temp start to rise up until it reached 98C and sometimes 101C. i kept playing games and doing 3D ( i work as an architect ) until i saw this problem. i have reapplied the Thermal Paste ( arctic MX-4 ) and no good result.

My mate advised me to change the cooler in which it was a stupid decision. i have changed the ( cooler master sedion 120v ) to ( cooler master masterluquid pro 120 ) and i bought new 4 fans for the rare and top chases .... but guess what !! no good result.

some advised me to change the the cpu and the motherboard because it's and old gen technology.

The inconsequential that will shock tom hardware community, all the problems started 3 days after i installed the gpu GTX 1060 ... when i told this to my friends they laugh and told me to f*** my self . yes it could be right, but would it be the reason ?

Solution
i have that same cpu (i7-4790 non-K) on an Asus Z97m-Plus motherboard. I suspect something, possibly a windows update, has kicked your Vcore way up - the higher the voltage, the hotter the cpu will run.. I suggest you download & install intel's XTU (extreme tuning utility, only because it would be interesting to see what it's displaying for temps and Vcore - it allows you to do this from inside windows and not have to go into BIOS, plus you can adjust it from the XTU utility. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU-

2nd - to give you some comfort, when i first built that computer, i was relying on Asus's AI Suiter III performance utility to monitor temperature, and it never reported...
well I am not sure about this cooler as I do not know anything about it but for a start I would be looking in the bios as with all water coolers you will need too ensure that all temperature related stuff is disabled. I am sure there is some paperwork that came with this cooler but that would be my first thing to do.

I don't know what the software is like for your new cooler, but does it give any indication of water temperature? Obviously, the original thing is , cpu temp hot, so therefore the cooler maybe damaged and you need a new one.

The coincidence of the CPU going high, could just be that, but you can easily eimliminate that problem, by removing it and plugging the monitor into the back of the motherboard. You can see if temp is lower then. I would then plug the gpu back in, . I would check the temperature again, but with only gpu plugged in and not used, and then finally go back to plugging it into the GPU and then doing temperature tests all thet ime.

You can also do physical check, holding the pipe of the water going in and out of the CPU cooler, you can tell if the water is hot - that will tell you if the temp readings are also accurate, because you can physically touch the pipe and if its at 98'C its like a warm cup of tea.

sir can you please elaborate more .. it's seems like a good idea to do .

it's NZXT 240

look sir, the case has nothing to do with it. it worked perfectly for few 2 years without any problem. The temp of CPU before the problem was 30 min and 45 max .

i have 4 Corsair fans for the case, 2 in the front bringing air in and 2 above taking air out. and the CPU water cooling radiator is sandwiched with 2 fans taking air out ...

this method worked for me for 2 years, suddenly ( after the new gpu few days ) the problem starts

i haven't tried an air cooler .. because i bought new watch cooling. Man i mean would in the F***k have 2 new faulty water cooling sequentially !!!!

Sir

The software i used is ( realtemp ) and CPIUD HWMnitors in which Linus Tech Tip highly recommended these for the PC overall temp monitor.

i will try that with the GPU and tell you ... do ever heard of a GPU clash with CPU temp ?

The Case does look good in terms of Airflow.
I would say you either got unlucky with 2 faulty pumps or the pump header of your motherboard is dead.
Can you hear any noise from that pump? Does it make any bubbleling sounds like there is air trapped inside the cpu block?

I have a NZXT Kraken X62 and the first time i fired this puppy up i had 60 Degree C @ Idle because of Air Bubbles inside the Block.
A few Minutes at highest possible pump speed with a little bit of "wiggle wiggle" and everything was fine.

for the moment i don't have the PC because i shut it off until i know what the F is going on with the PC ... but i remember the last time i checked the pump and fan speed reading was great , don't remember the r reading but it was really good .

bios settings in general you hammer the delete key not literally but when the machine first has power but I have been searching for a youtube video for ages now cant find one. But generally the new motherboards these days come with very sophisticated bios's and they control the CPU fan which you want to turn off anything to do with that and have full power flowing to the cooler. I do not know anything about your bios but there is info online and your cooler should have some.

New update

i have done 4 things regarding this issue :

1- i have removed the water cooling and i installed the basic air cooling from intel and it gives the same and some moments worst than the water cooling and reached 103C ..... I have check the water cooling pump and it preform perfectly.

i made this TEST in which i put my finger on the water cooling pipes , and yes one of them is cooled and the other is really hot . so it seems that my water cooling system is really really doing good .

2- i have removed the GPU and used the VGA port from the motherboard ... so the GPU is not faulty.

3- i have removed the casing and used an ( room fan ) in front of my PC and the room Temp is 22C . but the CPU was Hotter than the sun .

4- i have changed the Thermal Paste again and for no reason. and the same shit again .

New Update for the CPU

(( when i run HWMonitor, i see that the CPU 0 core has been shutdown, but when i use CPU-Z it says that the 4 cores and 8 threads are working perfectly ))

right now ... i have no idea what to do ...... am asking for your help here because if i went to any PC fixer in ( Dubai ) they will charge me a lot and will take from me minimum 1000$ which is a lot .... but no other choices ...... once i went and tried to fix the PC, i end up by stealing the RAM card

please need your help

impossible sir

cuz i have checked the water cooling pump pipe and it's actually hot so it means that the cpu is really hot .. i tried another cooling and the same happens

If the pump isnt running 100% of time it should be hot, check if pump is connected to sys_fan or cha_fan (3pin connector for fan), and radiator fans to cpu_fan.

And why in the world friends would say to you to screw yourself?

To check voltage and etc, download cpuz and pist screenshot of it.

Other thing that might be is that 4th gen i7 has thermal paste under ihs (the thing between cpu die and cooler) got dried.

2nd - to give you some comfort, when i first built that computer, i was relying on Asus's AI Suiter III performance utility to monitor temperature, and it never reported higher than 67C, almost predictably, and even when i was rendering video files which ran my cpu, generally, to 97-100% load levels. One day i downloaded RealTemp and it was showing cpu temps at 98-100C, and oddly temp would hit 100C, then fall back to 98C for 10 or so seconds, and climb back to 100C. I downloaded intel's XTU and it showed the same, so my Asus performance monitor utility had been under reporting temp by 31 to 33C. I had been rendering video files for 3 months, 1 to 3 hour jobs 5 to 10 jobs a week, with the CPU at it's limit. (The issue was my stock intel cooler).

The point is, it did no damage to my cpu - intel's XTU has a benchmarking app in it, that once you run a benchmark test, it allows you to upload the benchmark score to their website, and compare to other users and you can select to only compare to users running the same motherboard and cpu. My cpu is 3 + years old and it still scores within the top 5% of the scores, so i'm confident it hasn't damaged the cpu.

download intel's XTU and tell us what your Vcore is
