Hi, recently my PC started shutting down 15-20min after the first startup of the day (instant shutdown, no bluescreen). After some troubleshooting I decided to check HWMonitor to see the CPU temps and they were skyrocketing after the first startup - going up to 105ºC. After the shutdowns, I would turn on my PC again and everything runs just fine, normal temps, no shutdowns.

The cooling system is working properly and the fans are responsive to the temps (they would be at max speed when the pc would shut down). After the shutdowns I could be using my PC all day with no issues at all only to return the next morning and face the same loop all over again. I did a fresh install of windows, cleaned everything, still the issue persists. Does anyone have any idea of what it could be? It baffles me that I can use the PC just fine after it first shutsdown because of the high temps.

How old is your AIO cooler? You do realize that just because the fans are working, does not mean the cooler is working. You could be having an initial pump issue where the fans are running but the pump is not circulating liquid. Why it would do that at first but not after a reboot, who knows. It's no different than a TON of problems that people have that don't seem to repeat when they restart, only when they first cold boot.

First thing I'd do is make sure you have the MOST recent stable BIOS release installed for your motherboard.

Second thing I'd do is go into the BIOS and monitor the header that your pump is connected to unless your pump only connects to a SATA power connector and does not use a fan header for RPM signal.

What happens if you boot into Windows and then IMMEDIATELY choose the Windows option to restart? Does it still shut down after 20 minutes or does the restart negate that happening?

Thank you for your reply. My cooler is 2 years old. I did some more testing this morning and after restarting several times, after the pc had crashed, the temp didn't seem to go down until another fan just appeared in the HWMonitor. As soon as the FANIN1 poped up, the temps went from 90ºC to 30ºC in seconds, as you can see in the images. Before I only had CPU fan and then the FANIN1 appeared.

I have the case opened and all the fans were working properly. Could this be the pump from the AIO?

Typically, your AIO cooler will plug into two fan ports CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT. The fan is inserted into one and the water pump is inserted into the other. It doesn't typically matter which is which.

It certainly sounds like the pump is either going out or the FANIN1 connection is bad.

How old is the AIO? typically, they have a lifespan of 5 or so years. If it is older than 5 years, it may be failing.
This is several times now I've needed to point out something the OP has already answered. Now, I don't mean to ride you, but dude, you NEED to pay attention to what's already been said because it's, kind of important.

The OP clearly stated that the cooler is 2 years old in his last post.

Ok, first thing to do, get the F rid of HWmonitor. It's literally one of the least reliable monitoring utilities out there aside from actual Windows resource and task monitors, which are admittedly probably worse. But at least they don't misreport sensors and things the way HWmonitor always does.

My recommendation would be to uninstall it and never use it again. Instead, download and install HWinfo, which is FAR more accurate and is religiously updated so that it remains accurate regardless of changes that come along. Then see if you see similar problems.

You are right, I have an awful habit of skimming posts and that causes me to miss things. I apologize and I will work on that.

it could be 3 things

1. pump is failing
2. thermal paste is dry.
3. a bad mount ive seen these break due to the weak plastic mount points.

No, it couldn't. Thermal paste would NOT be "ok" just because the system got "restarted". Does not work that way. If TIM is the problem, it will be a CONSTANT problem, regardless of how many times you might restart the system. In fact, it would only get worse and worse. Fact.

The EXACT same thing goes for a bad mount. It would not get better as the system gets hotter because it's been on longer, nor because you restarted the system. Again, does not work that way.

If you don't know what you are talking about, maybe it would be better to not talk about it. Just saying. These are real people with real problems. The last thing they need is half baked ideas.

Thank you all for your help.
@Darkbreeze I've installed HWinfo as suggested and the issue appears to be with the System 1 FAN (which in HWinfo appears properly labeled). I did not assemble this PC and the wires all go behind a back pannel but I believe what is connected there is indeed the AIO. Could it be possible that this is a motherboard issue? I only ask this because the PC is 2 years old and I've already had several issues with it. RAM had problems, had to get a new GPU (warranty) and now the AIO is breaking down which seems odd to me after only 2 years with very normal usage. Not saying its not possible, its just that putting this all together maybe the root is the motherboard.

The PC has now been on for almost 20h with no issues, I just can't shut it down.

Alas, I've also discovered that I still have 3 weeks on my warranty, I thought it was over already. I will send the PC to the manufacturer and have them replace the AIO and whatever else they find the problem to be.
