Question CPU Temperature Increased After Moving PC and Reinstalling Windows – Need Advice

Hi everyone,

After recently moving my PC to a new desk and reinstalling Windows, I’ve noticed that my CPU temperatures are higher than before. While playing regular games, the CPU temperature now hovers around 70–75°C, whereas it used to stay around 60°C under similar conditions.

I’ve already stress-tested both my CPU and GPU without any stability issues. I’ve also checked for background processes and updated all drivers. The cooling system appears physically fine at a glance, but I haven’t opened the case yet.

Could this temperature increase be caused by software changes (like power settings or drivers), or might it be due to something hardware-related, such as the thermal paste being disturbed during the move? What would you recommend checking first?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Might want to see if reseating your cooler helps change what you're seeing with temps. Be sure to remove and reapply the thermal paste for the cooler(as opposed to novice users recycling said thermal paste after dismounting said cooler).

All components are 8 months old. Im gonna lock up the BIOS version as well.

Have you checked the fan curves in the BIOS. Reinstalling Windows shouldn't have affected them, but if the fans associated with your CPU have slowed down, temperatures will rise.

When you open the case, check all the appropriate fans are spinning. You can ignore GPU card fans and the PSU fan which might be stationary when the system is idling, but your CPU's cooler fans or AIO radiator fans need to be working for good cooling. A fan lead might have become detached. If you have an AIO, check the pump motor speed too.
