CPU Temperature question

So I've just built my very first computer, and I'd like to ask, with a temperature of 65 Celsius while under the CPU-Z Stress test (using a core i7-6700k at 4.0 GHz), considered good or bad?

Solution

6700k doesn't come with a stock cooler..

65c is fine, although CpuZ isnt the most intense stress test. Try a few others and see what you get.

I'm by far no professional in this topic considering that im working on my first build myself, but i have learned a whole lot in the last few weeks aside from what ive already known. While stress testing your cpu generally tends to get hotter than if it were just under load during a game (in most cases). I know that this is intel we are talking about but ive heard rumors of people stress testing AMD products such as the 8350 and so on while getting temps of 70c and being okay. I guess if you have sufficient cooling i wouldnt worry about it to much, i would pay more attention to your core temps while under load during a game and see if your temps get that high, and if not then i would say your probably good.

Alright, I'll try and monitor them while i'm gaming, using a hyper 212 led and for a first time builder it was a pain to install, was wondering if my thermal paste got squished the wrong way or something while it was installed. Thanks for all the help!

You'll only get unrealistic bench temps if you use things such as Prime95 later than version 26.6 because it employs AVX. See here, section 12..

Most benches like IXTU are fairly accurate. Running games is actually a good way to bench a CPU in it's own right tho.

No 65c is a reasonable temp. It wont start throttling until like 95c.

thanks, i appreciate the link. i havent actually stress tested my own cpu yet.. but ive also been reading about temps and what mine should be at, although ive heard too that intel rlikes to run hotter than amd? not sure if its true or not because ive also heard that people run their amd at temps 65c+. either way you gave me more information i didnt know before. Itll be a good reference guide later down the road being that im planning for next build to be based off intel.

Yeah depends on chip but Intel chips do tend to have higher max temps than AMD chips. Best way is to check the Tcase Max on the CPU page itself on Intel's website for a guide to a particular model. There are things in place to avoid any damage being done like throttling and auto-shutdown so I wouldnt worry too much about stressing CPU's. It's only damaging if done over time.

So currently playing Firewatch with Ultra Settings (GPU is a msi armor gtx1060 6g oc) and from hw monitor my cpu (i7 6700k no OC) is going from around 35 to 60, but usually it hovers around 50 degrees. Currently around 27 Celsius in my country. Is that good or bad? Sorry just kinda clueless about temp ranges

yeah i would say those are good temps. i play most of my games on ultra with a fx6300 (soon to be 8350) and im getting right around 45-55c

yeah thats what im saying, if intel runs hotter then if me and him are at the same temps roughly then its a good temp.
