CPU Temperature Spiking

I have an i7 7800K. Not too long ago I had a stock intel fan which didn't do a great job at keeping the cpu cool. While playing games one time the temperature jumped to 90 degrees celsius. I edited some option in the control panel that made the maximum temperature never go over 65 degrees celsius. Now I have an EVGA liquid cooler and I set the option in control panel back to as it was. While playing games the temperature stays below 60 and maximum is at around 56 or 58 for short periods. However, when playing and even when idle the temperature spikes up for a brief moment. Playing - 73 | Idle from 30ish to 52. This also never happened with the stock intel fan. The temperature was always constant at either 35 idle or 55/60/65 playing depending on game. Is this something to be concerned about? Am I damaging my cpu? Thanks in advance.

No. Your temps are really good.

....and spiking can be normal in certain circumstances....like if an app needs to use the CPU for a short period of time.

although I don't know why it would start spiking with a new cooler.

One thing you could do is go to Task Manager and sort it by CPU usage....and see if you can tell what app is using the CPU when it spikes.

All of the cores spike and they last for roughly 1 second. I also noticed that the spikes are more frequent when I exit out of a game and the temperature drops to idle.
