Question CPU temps too high ?

My I7 9800X3D is consistently running @ 52 degrees c at idle. I have taken the AIO off and reseated the block with new paste but nothing changed. I have plenty of fans blowing in the correct direction. Everytime I open a browser my AIO fans spin up and it gets loud and annoying. I have tried to change the settings but don't want to stop it from cooling the CPU. I have had no instability issues. No BSOD. But everywhere I look it says they should be around 40c. I know I shouldn't be making an issue if its not causing problems now but I don't want it to burn out.

What people say online about various PC stats is 98% regurgitated BS-Bandwagon not experience or first hand understanding. There are numerous variables like AIO size, room temp, if they are running a negative CO (which you should be), and a dozen other unaccountable factors that don't make one thing universally true.

What are you hitting under full load? That's what matters.

ya, I figured I would have people ask me this. lol. Like I said in my post, I know I shouldn't be making an issue of it since I have had no instability problems, "however, I have heard of CPUs having their life shortened due to high temps and since most of what I have read indicates that 52c is rather high fir idle, I got a little worried.

As for your question. Under load..... When gaming, I am hitting around 95c but still no instabiliy.

I just wanted to ask around to make sure I wasn't harming my CPU by continuing to let it run like this.

It's new CPU jitters. High temps means roasting it at or near Max temps consistently and extended sessions.

95 on the other hand is too hot. It will thermal throttle diminishing your performance and overall life if you don't upgrade your CPU for long stretches. If you upgrade frequently the dying part won't make much difference.

What AIO (exact model) do you have?
 
whats your ambient temp ( so where you live climate wise )

Tj max is 95c anyway

And like previous post what AIO are you using ??

Personally i would not go below a 360mm aio on the 9800x3d ( worse case no lower than a 280mm aio )

Arctic freezer iii 280mm to 420mm will be a great option as they have some of the bigger rads on the market and cool great when price to performance !!

I run a arctic freezer iii 420mm AIO on my 7800x3d and its still hitting 75c allcore R23 and at the time of writing this idling at 50c but its like a 33c day today so i would guess about 26-30c inside the house !

under allcore R23 as tested moments ago its maxing out at 82.5c ..

Zen 4 and Zen 5 like to boost to tj max by default

So your climate will always play a big part on your overall temps !

Your CPU is running cooler than your AC lol 420mm is overkill IMO mainly because of cost and limited cases but more can't hurt.

My 7800X3D runs/ran comparatively warmer than my 9800X3D, even when not stressed. I think it has to do with how the Cache is structured ergo the lower max.

That said it seems most, including my 9800X3D are stable at a -30 VO Curve (that's negative). My 7800X3D I have written down that I hit -30 also but that could be either silicone lottery or former component combo win. For you id say it wouldn't hurt to try a -15 VO Curve and work your way down.



For OP, let us know what cooler you have but if it's not at least 360, that's your issue. You could start with a -20 VOC and see how your temps look. There will be little to no perceivable performance loss.

Yeah I know I like to overkill my cpu coolers 🤣🤣

BUT this time there’ is a reason for it I’m looking at upgrading to the 9950x3d to sit on it for a few gens ..

Yes the 7800x3d cache was placed differently so hotter..

I think there is definitely diminishing returns on a 420mm but my new case
( there is pics in members system thread )
Fitted a arctic freezer iii 420mm in it ( most cases don’t ) So why not🤣

I stand by my statement of 360mm should really be the lowest size for a few reasons most of all the degradation if it’s consistently hitting 95c..

I have an NZXT 360 Elite RGB. I live in Alabama where it is always very humid, Winter and Summer. I keep my house around 72f year round.

Whats funny is I recently changed motherboards from a Gigabyte x870 Auros Ice where my temps were in the 30s and 40s at Idle and 70s at load, to this B850 and that when my temps went up. I know, now you're going to ask me why I changed motherboards.... because the B850 has a second X16 PCIe slot and the X870 didnt and I needed one.

Was about to ask why you went from an X870e to B850.. this is why one should read in full before commenting. Just make sure both really are x16 and don't go lower with an m.2, I've only personally seen it for Gen5 but that was only with one x16 slot.

Anyway, if swapping motherboard is when you noticed this it's one, or all, of these three that come to mind.

1) Bad Paste / Paste application
2) Cooler not seated properly/uneven pressure
2a) Uneven socket, Thermalright contact frame
3) Bad or Misconfigured BIOS
4) You didn't mention the board, if it's an ASRock, take that thing out now.

No, it's an Asus, ROG Strix board. It is hard to find boards that have 2 X16 PCIe slots, especially white ones. My PC is all white so my choiices are limited. I have repasted my CPU and reseated the cooler block and it didn't help. But all of this started agter I went from Gigabyte X870 to Asus B850. I have ordered an ASRock X870 white board that has a 2nd PCIe X16 slot that I am going to try and see if I get different results. If I have the same issues I'll know I am doing something wrong. If not, then hopefully the ASrock board won't be as bad as you say they are. If it is, then I may have to pollute my all white PC with a black motherboard.

You could try this simple test; manually set every fan you have to 100 percent maximum and let the cpu idle for around 10 minutes. See how low it goes and if its not that bad, its probably just your fan curves needing adjustment.

And Noo!!! Haven't you been following the news? There is a common failure point of X3D processors literally burning up and it's ASRock. Nobody knows why at this point. Processors and board are fake dead (revivable with a custom unreleased BIOS), others have literal burn marks on the board and processor and are dead, dead, dead.

Just humor me and set a custom VO Curve and repaste. See what your temps are after.
