No, it is not possible as far as I know. Laptops typically use BGA (Ball Grid Array) rather than desktop grade LGA (Land Grid Array) or PGA (Pin Grid Array). With BGA, the CPU is soldered to the motherboard, effectively making it impossible to remove.

But the processor is removable, I've changed the thermal paste and also cleaned the cpu by removing it. I'ts PGA socket

Interesting, I didn't realize this. I would recommend typing the motherboard model name into Google and visiting the manufacturers website which will tell you what CPUs are compatible. I would also recommend looking for a new BIOS/UEFI on Google as well.

The physical socket on that allows potential changing.
The question is...what does the motherboard and BIOS allow?

You'll have to dig up a specific service manual and see if that tells you.

This is the list of compatible cpu's

That is true and something that I failed to say. I knew from the start that the BIOS would be incompatible, but I presume that the CPU is fine for that motherboard.

So, if I upgrade to i7 i just need to update BIOS !!!!!!

Not quite. I will do a little research right now for you to see what CPUs that motherboard is compatible with.

It seems that the i7-3940XM is compatible with the motherboard. I advise that you look around for a BIOS that is compatible.

Thanks a lot
