I upgraded from 10400F to 11700kf CPU, updating the bios from 2020 factory to Dec 2023 latest (AD)

MOBO:
MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus MOBO then installing.

10400f:
Everything works fine

11700kf:
No keyboard, no mouse, white CPU warning light

CMOS cleared/reset did not help

NOTE: fans and gpu etc all appear to be working.

Similar forum posts on this issue did not resolve issue (ie bios update and cmos reset).

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance

UPDATE 2:
Bios confirmed as latest
CPU fan confirmed to be working
Socket: Can't see any bent/ broken been

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Per their CPU's support list;
You're going to need BIOS version 7C75vA6 prior to dropping in the latter generation processor.

updating the bios from 2020 factory to Dec 2023 latest (AD)
Did you clear the CMOS after verifying the BIOS was successfully updated to 7C75vAD?

Speaking of BIOS, how did you update the BIOS on your motherboard?

I updated to 7C75vAD (2023-09-01) via thumbdrive with the 10400f still in and it installed properly (still using it now with the 10400f reinstalled) but 11700kf didn't work...

Do you mean I ought to try roll back to the A6 version and try again or that one and those after it ought to work with 11th gen?

Thanks for the reply!

Shouldn't need to do incremental updates but yeah rolling back is something to try. Also try usb 2 port, just in case bios flash didn't complete fully for some reason. Boot back to bios and confirm revision number then load bios defaults before swapping cpu. Check cpu_fan header is correctly plugged.

Rma the cpu for another, I'm wondering if it's a fake or faulty.

Thanks, the cpu was purchased from Amazon warehouse so it could be damaged or a dud.

Q:
I updated to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers this morning.
Could the old 2020 drivers have prevented the 11th gen cpu from being recognized on the z490 mobo?

Thanks again

Na, drivers are loaded with Windows which is after post and has nothing to do with hindering compatibility. Bios is before Windows so if you can't get that then there's something else (hardware wise) going on. Most likely dud cpu. Ihs has been swapped on CPU's before and sold from Amazon, not knowingly of course, just people do the deed return the product then someone else gets it.

I have the same issue on my z490 Gaming Plus MB. I’m trying to upgrade from 10100F to 11700k and the system doesn’t start. CPU debug led is lit.
I also have the same (latest) bios version. Also reset CMOS.
Did you solve it? Any suggestions?
