Manufacturers dont test all the cpus so sometimes u cant know if its compatible
Other than some Xeon support with a modded BIOS, I wouldn't assume that. To play it safe you should buy a motherboard that officially supports the CPU.

You didn't even tell us what motherboard; did you check the supported CPU list on ASRock's site? If it's supported and it doesn't work, then the CPU may be defective.

I agree, but they need to insert the microcode in their BIOS and then they add the new CPUs on the supported list. Unsupported CPUs sometimes work, but they usually are running at a lower frequency.
