Hello. I've just purchased a CPU based on the advice of someone from these forums but I forgot to ask how much difference there is between what I have (AMD Phenom II x4 955BE) and what I've ordered (Core i5-4440). Can anyone tell me how much difference it will make?

How much of a difference in what type of application? Gaming? Editing?

Raw numbers wise, the i5 4440 (according to CPU-World
is 86% better in single threaded performance and 54% better in mutli-threaded performance when compared to your previous processor.

In terms of gaming performance, I can't really say off the top of my head how much of a difference it will make. There will be a difference, but it won't be as signifcant as a GPU upgrade.

Edit: You ninja'd me! 😛

Rendering will definitely be a heck of a lot better, and I've already added my thoughts about gaming. :thumb:

Really I'm just checking that its a worth while upgrade and that I haven't wasted my money. 86% for single threaded is massive, as is 54% for multi. The GPU upgrade is coming later and should make it shine.

Sounds like a plan. 😀 Yeah, in terms of gaming performance, the only real benefit that the new chip will have is the ability to use a better graphics card without being bottlenecked, and in games such as: BF4, Starcraft II, etc you'll get better performance as well because those games are largely CPU bound.

I also play Arma 3 that has a terribly old engine that hammers the CPU. I hope I see some improvement there. I should definitely see a huge improvement when it comes to 3D rendering in apps like zbrush, maya, modo etc.
