Hi,

I was wondering what cpu i could upgrade to, I mainly do gaming with a light bit of editing and rendering I have a Gtx 780 and want to upgrade to something newer Intel or Amd whatever would be cheapest for me to upgrade as I am not looking to spend a great deal of money i currently have an i5 2400s 2.5 no overclock any upgrade suggestions is appreciated

Yeah, that's a fair point.

Overclocking: 6600k
Not overclocking: 6500 or maybe 6600.

The thing about the B150 mobo is that it only has one pcie slot (not a problem unless you wanna add another gpu) and it doesn't support ram speeds over 2400. Also not a problem, but just to let you know.

The only reason I would think to get the 6600k is for its power, which should be...

An i5-6600k would be ideal for that. Very new, and has an upgrade path intel has yet to release. Also, allows you to upgrade that gpu later without seeing any bottlenecking. Just make sure you get a decent mobo to go with it, maybe an MSI Gaming Z170 M5 board would be good, though it is relatively expensive.

Hmm, I don't really agree with what aces sais.

I think you should spend less money, since your GPU isn't that over powered (It's a really good one, but not a GTX980Ti). I'd get a i5-6500, and since you're not doing any OCs, a B150 mobo should do. You have to upgrade your ram, the DIMM slots on the mobo (B150 and Z170) are for DDR4, DDR3 won't fit. Good luck!

Since he's looking for a pretty cheap CPU, that 6500 should do. Good point about the RAM, forgot to note that :)

There are B150s out there with some extra 4x and 1x slots, that should be enough for some extra expansion cards.
