CPU upgrade for HP P6210Y - M2N78-LA (Violet) motherboard

I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU, and I'm enough of a noob to not be exactly sure which is the fastest (or best). Or even if it's worth it, for that matter.

Here's the processor upgrade info from the HP website:
Socket type: AM3
TDP:
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
•AMD Athlon X2 (Bt)
•AMD Athlon 64 X2 up to 6000+ (W)
•AMD Phenom Triple-Core up to 8xxx (AM2+) (Toliman)
•AMD Phenom Quad-Core 9xxx series (AM2+) up to 9850 (Agena)

I currently have the stock Athlon II X64 620 installed. Is picking the fastest CPU as simple as going with the last one on the list -- Phenom Quad 9850? That would run me about $60 right now.

If it helps any, I'm wanting to run Adobe CS5 (mostly Premier Pro) to make films. I already upgraded the PSU to 800w, the RAM to 8GB DDR2, the video card to the GTX 470, and Windows 7 to Pro (64). Also thinking about upgrading the RAM to 16GB.

My other option is to buy an i7 setup with 12 or 24 GB DDR3, and move the upgraded PSU and GTX 470 over into the new rig. Thoughts or advice? Thanks.

The Athlon II is an AM3 CPU, what other AM3 CPUs does your mobo support, those listed are slower than you Athlon II and that's a good CPU, keep it and change your platform only if your applications don't run fast enough.

A cheaper upgrade would be an AM2+ mobo (in order to reuse the RAM), say this one

The info I gave is all that the HP product info page provided. I have no idea why they put an AM3 card on an AM2+ board, but my knowledge level of mobos, processors and RAM is weak.

Ideally, I'd like to upgrade both the processor and memory. I currently have 4 x2GB DDR2 cards, and I'm thinking about getting 4 x4GB cards, but that's kind of pricey ($399). $60 for a faster processor sounded like a reasonable upgrade, but I couldn't figure out which CPU would be the fastest. I also wasn't sure if such an upgrade would provide any worthwhile performance improvement.

IMO you have enough RAM. Next year both Intel and AMD will change the sockets, better wait until then and get the new stuff.

I am thinking about upgrading the processor to the AMD 1100T, I know this mobo only goes as high as 9xxxx series. Is the upgrade still prossible ?

I am thinking about upgrading the processor to the AMD 1100T, I know this mobo only goes as high as 9xxxx series. Is the upgrade still prossible ?

I know this thread is old but I'm wanting to upgrade to the Phenom x4 1100T. Can you confirm if this was possible?
