Currently have a somewhat old Athlon II X4 620 in my current PC, and have picked up a G3258 cheaply as my machine is starting to get a little tired and unreliable.

Just wondering if this is more of a sidegrade than anything? I'm assuming a large increase in single threaded applications, but unsure on how the G3258 would deal with multithreaded tasks (such as Ableton and music software mostly) or whether it would beat the Athlon simply because of it's raw power.

Any info appreciated.

Not particularly, I just bought the g3258 since I managed to get it for £30 and was quite a large saving and a big step down price wise from the £90+/- i3's and wondered if I would see a boost even in multithreaded applications with the pentium being newer and more efficient.
