Currently I have a HP Lubin motherboard (SSID:82F2 / Chipset H270) with a i3-7100, im looking to upgrade my cpu and I found out that I can upgrade to the i7-7700, according to HP. but it doesn't tell me i7-7700k, aren't those the same CPU's though? Another thing though, if I get the i7-7700 or the i7-7700k, do I have to get a BIOs update? HP isn't telling me.

Solution
Good nigth, the I7-7700 and I7-7700K are different processors. The second is somewhat more powerful and also allows, with a suitable mobo, to perform overclocking. It must be said that with your mobo you cannot overclock in any case due to its H270 chipset.

In addition the I7-7700 has TDP of 65W and the I7-7700K of 91W. The HP page indicates that it supports processors up to 65W so it supports the I7-7700 and not the I7-7700K.

Since the I3-7100 appeared at the same time as the I7-7700 it is surely not mandatory to update the bios, but it would be good if you confirmed it with HP.
In general, hp products have a utility to manage possible system updates.
K is for overcloaking. They are the same but one is unlocked the k one and without k you won't be able to oc. And if you are upgrading just cpu. For safer good just update your bios

Additionally I consider that the price of a second-hand I7-7700 is indecently high for what it gives.

In order for us to help you better, it would be good if you indicated the characteristics of your equipment and what problem or need you have. Perhaps there are other better solutions than updating the cpu.
