i think this can be answered without exact specs so here goes...

Im trying to replace my FX-4300 with a FX-8350.
the fx-8350 is listed as compatable but "no longer supported by manufacturer" with my motherboard on gigabytes site
what exactly does that mean? will it work?

Solution
GA-78LMT-S2 is the cheapest Gigabyte AM3+ motherboard. FX processors that it supports are limited to 95 watts Thermal Design Power. FX-8350 is 125 watts TDP and is not supported. It gets too hot for the motherboard. Gigabyte may have also taken steps so it won't work if you do try to use it.

I suggest using CPUs on the published CPU Support List for your model.
