[SOLVED] CPU Upgrade Recommendation

Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) 3200+ 1.8GHz
Bios: V1.6
RAM: 2.5GB
Graphics Card: None


My PC hangs when I run software like GetDataBack or TestDisk.

I want to upgrade because I want to run these softwares.

That board supports any of the following CPU's:

CPU
• Supports 64-bit AMD® Athlon™ 64 / Athlon™ 64FX /Athlon 64 X2 processor (Socket AM2)
• Supports Sempron CPU: 3000+, 3200+, 3400+, 3500+, 3600+, 3800+
• Supports Athlon 64 CPU: 3500+, 3800+
• Supports Athlon 64 X2 CPU: 3800+, 4000+, 4200, 4400+, 4600+, 4800+, 5000+, 5200+

If you really want to stick with that setup, go with an Athlon 64 X2 as an upgrade.

....as far as what to get....I would research their performance and availability and pricing and make a decision that way.

Your current processor is puny and has only one core.
Some apps will require 2 or more.

One of the X2 processors might suffice.

That said, I do not think I would dump any more money into such an old setup.
