cpu upgrade required

i assembled a mini itx pc the last year, a atlhon 5350, 8 gbs of ram and a msi am1i mainboard

the thing runs fast and is very stable, i even did some overclocking on it, just 50 mhz thanks to the limited mainboard

i added a cheap gpu to it, a r7 250, ddr3 model because i couldn't find or afford a ddr5 model

after playing with it alot this month i discovered some interesting details

the machine works great with some games, with others struggle but deliver, but on some, well, a 2.1 ghz core from a laptop can't run well gta v

at 720p works well with vsync and limited to 30 fps on most situations(30hz and a tv that doesn't cooperate much forces me to use those settings), but sometimes the thing struggles to reach 15fps

by running afterburner i discovered that overclocking the gpu will not help me to reach stable 30fps all the time, because the cpu is all the time at 100%, while the gpu, being a weak gpu, only reaches 50% of usage

the only upgrade path for a am1 socket is a 5370 iirc

so it is time for a new mainboard and cpu

i'm between a msi 110

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/H110I-PRO.html#hero-overview

with a pentium 4400 cpu(budget goes only to that one) or a msi a68 itx

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/A68HI-AC.html#hero-specification

with a x4 860k(same budget limitation)

the amd solution is cheaper(cpu and mainboard) and lets me reuse the ram, so the upgrade is as painless as possible

the amd is a bit faster, but surely won't get upgrades, ever, and tht is fine for me

the intel will get upgrades on that lga 1151 but since i'm choosing to keep ddr3, that limits things, also i don't like intel much

any opinions over the idea are appreciated

Solution
Yes, indeed it could be the fact that you live in another country. Prices for myself are consistent with what AMD has stated ($499 - 1800X, $399 - 1700X, etc.)

Again, if you could just save up instead of buying now, that would be what I would recommend. Upgrading right now will just caused you to need to upgrade soon again anyways. It turns into a vicious cycle.
It would be best if you could save up and then buy a good, new system and then not need to upgrade for a while.
If you're planning to upgrade to the Intel 6th generation motherboard and CPU, you'll also need to be equipped with DDR4 RAM - DDR3 sticks won't fit into a DDR4 slot.

This means you'll also need to buy a RAM kit (8GB if you want to stay the same as your current system). Of course, as you mentioned, this would give options to upgrade to bigger and better in the future.

if i have to buy ram, i can't upgrade on this path, or is a intel itx with ddr3 or is the fm2, if i jump to ddr4, the budget disappears immediately

the option to go intel, is a last option, if i can't find a decent itx fm2 mainboard locally or in amazon at a decent price

it seems i will getting that msi itx for fm2 cpu and the x4 860k, not much options atm

hopefully that cpu will give me a bit more of smoothness on gta v, the am1 does all what it can but on some moments on free mode is not enough

anyone with a similar setup can share their experiences with such setup?

I would heavily encourage you to WAIT for the next series of Ryzen chips to come out. If you are as powerful as they suggest, they will probably have Intel drop some prices. They will also probably be competitively priced as will their motherboards.

They are released within a matter of WEEKS. I would suggest waiting as you could also expand your budget by a small margin?

Wasting your money on an FM2 socket motherboard will not support you in the long term (like a new AM4 or LGA 1151 board might).

that is correct but local prices ad current stock will not be cleared until perhaps june, not to mention price stabilization and availability

well, wait, yes, but when you wait too much, you do nothing, well, i will wait, thank you for your reply 😀

Honestly, I would just save up money until you can really dive for some medium range gear. It'll carry you the farthest until you require a further upgrade (maybe a year or two in the future).

This is what I did - built a medium range system that still serves me well a year and a half into it's making. Not planning to upgrade unless I find that I'm really struggling (which I'm not).

yes, that is the wisest decision, buy the best middle range cpu possible

but in reality my budget will not allow it

doing light calculations i will need a new mainboard, new ram and new cpu

the mainboard will cost me at least 100 dollars, the cpu will cost me at least 150 dollars, that is hoping to get at decent price the ryzen r3 1100 and the ram, well, i will get 16 gbs ddr4, the fastest one i cn buy, surely 2133mhz ram

when the budget is limmitd and the avaiability if parts is a concern, you end up paying the double on some countries and that is hoping to get the leaked prices here

the r7 1800x supposedly is sold at 500 dollars, but if you search it on amazon, it is being sold at 650 dollars, that is on presale knowing that amd expected a big demand over the product and suppsedly they will have a couple million units to cover that demenad

i expect the same or worse to what happened with rx480, supposedly sold at 200 but after almost 8 months of release, you can't find the 4 gbs model at that price easily, and if you di, is thanks to the preparation for the rx 560 and 580

well, i would like to buy ram but atm is very expensive, 16 gbs dd4 2133 is at 120 dollars, that doesn't include taxes and shipping costs, should cost 150 dollars here

the 1100 that i could theoretically buy, well, i hope i can find it at 130 and the mainboard, itx, well, no idea how much, but the 15 dollars budget, vanished completely

i always buy a middle to low pc, and it has worked well for me always, but i wanted to ply gta v on pc, on ps4, well it was expensive when i wanted to buy one, but pc i had around doing nothing mostly, well, it is what it is, not enough for that but more than enough for the rest of things i do all the time

patience i suppose, until i can buy all 3 parts, that doesn't include a windows license and a new hard disk, the 120 gbs ssd with gta v is not enough, will have to put a 240gbs ssd or a 1 tb toshiba hard disk and be patient

pc master race is a pita!

Sounds like a plan. Of course, there will be even newer mid-range Ryzen CPUs which should really be more in your price point that should really satisfy all your processing needs for the next couple years. They'll be launched in the second quarter of 2017, so you really shouldn't have to wait long.

Just keep saving until you can really afford a nice mid-tier system!

after following the prices of ryzen, availabity and mainboards offered, i find some problems there

no itx has been mentioned to date, nor for 57, or for r3 and r5 lines

no prices yet but the leaks from previous months seems to indicate that the cheapest option would be for me a ryzen r3 1100, at around 130 dollars, possibly more

that is very expensive to me, not to mention the cost of the itx mainboard i need and i don't know how much is going to cost

atm ddr4 has a price spike locally, so it is expensive atm

being that the horizon for zen is not clear i had a couple of ideas in mind

the first is to make a intel machine, i only can find asrock h110 itx mainboards locally at decent prices, i don't like asrock, but can't find more here

a pentium g4400 that is cheap atm here(can't find g4560) and the problem would be the ram, i would have to buy 1x8gb stick only, no kits are cheap or available here atm

another option is make a new micro atx case and put a normal microatx msi a68 in it, put the x4 860k and move the ddr3 kit of ram i have and forget the itx case but i really like that case

each idea has his pros and cons

with the intel approach i could sell the g4400 later and get a i3 when is better priced, at the moment it costs the double of the g4400 but the cost of ram and the idea of using a asrock intel mainboard is something i really don't like to do

with the amd approach, the cpu is cheap, i know it should offer a decent experience with gta v and will be simple to build but the mainboard, it is not found locally so i have to buy it from amazon and bring it home, that makes it a 100 dollar mainboard to me, and as a mini itx mainboard for a fm2 cpu, that is a lot right?

this one, is cheaper, but is asrock and doesn't have a wifi card

i know i am repeating parts of the original post but sometimes a little recap refreshes minds

I have a good build that's pretty cheap (also gives you space to upgrade in the future):

This would be pretty cheap and you can add upgrades to the future.

it is almost exactly what i can buy atm, except for the ram, i was reading about problems with gta v and that cpu, being a dual core, lots of stutter form time to time, can you confirm this behavior? thank you

the other option seems to be the g4560, 2 cores and 4 threads, seems to be a bit better for gta v and pcpartpicker reports it at $60

Yeah, I mean, you could definitely go that route but it won't give you as much support in any specialized areas you might go into (gaming, video editing, software, etc.) in the near and far future.

Why would an ITX board for the CPU not work? Would you prefer a different board than the ASRock H110M-ITX Mini ITX?

my case is mini itx, a corsair 250d

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/obsidian-series-250d-mini-itx-pc-case

so i need itx, i could buy another case but i really love this case

last night i watched a review of the g4400 playing gta, while it reports great fps, it suffes from very bad stutter, the idea is improve my current experience, not make it worse, that is why i am a bit dubious about a 2 cores cpu and a 4 cores, even a cheap regular one like the x4 860k makes sense to me atm

well, i was going to do the asrock+g4560 approach, since most youtubers and reviewers were praising the couple so much

so went, found the 4560 very cheap, 66 dollars

i was going to buy it on the store then asked for the mainboard, but they said that it was not supported, the mainboard didn't had latest bios in it so it wasn't going to work out of the box with this cpu, so they were going to charge me 10 dollars for updating bios, i said to them that i wasn't going to pay for that, i asked if it worked, not if you could get more money from me to make it work

so, i decided to get a different approach, i am going to give to my mother the itx pc i have not, the mainboard, cpu, case and put a psu and some ram with a small hard disk i have for situations like this one

so i am buying the fm2 solution with a change, itx fm2 mainboard, well, couldn't find a single one, so i am going to buy this one https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/A68HMPLUS/

already bought the x4 860k, couldn't find a 880k

while it is weaker than the g4560, should be enough to play at hd or higher, i don't have a 1080p tv or monitor atm so hd is all i have and need now

saturday i installed dying light, it was less than half in steam!

discovered something interesting, the r7 250 i have is maxed out there, at 30 fps(need vsync for the tv, too much screen tearing), cpu is almost maxed too, so my cpu upgrade will extend to gpu later, (possibly a gtx 1050 or a rx460, whatever my budget allows in the next 3 months), mainboard, gpu and case

i think i will get a corsair 88r or a zalman z1 neo, perhaps a cooler maste masterbox lite 3

but i am not a friend of windows in the left panel, also the psu on the top is not what i would like, specially on the cooler master but still looks very nice

so in general i am going to build this

x4 860k
asus a68 hm plus
r7 250 ddr3(will be replaced later)
corsair ddr3 2x4gbs
corsair cx500 psu
kingston 120gb ssd
toshiba 1tb hard disk

so the last doubt is the case, i really like the 88r, it is the closest to a mini itx i have but the other too looks nice

any opinion is apreciated
